Grime master and ever-evolving producer Terror Danjah has done the rounds of Planet Mu and Hyperdub lately, putting out danceable tunes with a brain and soul. With the release of Acid / ProPlus on Hyperdub and rumors of an upcoming album, Danjah gives an insight on this meaty mix of bass insanity as well as his roots.
URB: How did you get into making tunes?
TERROR DANJAH: I started out doing specials for myself back in the jungle days, then jungle/drum & bass producers started getting tight and started getting more and more serious into production.
URB: You’re rooted in grime and have taken a lot of that sound and atmosphere into what you’re making now. Is there a difference in style to you nowadays?
TD: It doesn’t make a difference to me personally, both genres both come from UK Garage. Grime is still a strong sound, dubstep is getting a lot attention at the moment, but it’s all good.
URB: How did you get Acid / Pro Plus released onto Hyperdub? How is different from you previous releases?
TD: I had to do something different, and Kode9 played a big role, because I sent Kode a shed load of tunes, then I got a rough idea from Kode that he wanted something out[of] the box.
URB: What tunes have you been listening to non-stop?
TD: “Acid,” “Gully Brook Estate” by Joker and my remix of Rox’s “My Baby Left Me.”
URB: Elaborate on this hearty mix you gave us; what kind of vibe were you going for?
TD: Party/raving kind of vibe!
