Next Hype in London Streets

So as you may have heard, today in London there were some sizable protests over tuition hikes that turned quite violent involving beatings and arson. (You can read more about the protests and aftermath HERE) While perusing some of the videos from the day, our friend Shortstack stumbled upon this video in particular where a group of protesters can be heard singing along with the classic Tempa T tune "Next Hype." I'm no advocate for violence by any means, but I must admit that it brings a tear of joy to my eye hearing so many people chant at once "WON'T GET NONE OF YOUR CD'S BACK!"

Clear.

Fast forward to 1:07 for the clip of "Next Hype"

Terror Danjah - 'Undeniable' Album Review

Terror Danjah's first proper album Undeniable has been long awaited and highly anticipated. This is the grime don's first true album since it's hard for us to consider Shock to the System or Hardrumentals as real album concepts, but more just compilations of various tunes. Dropping on Hyperdub instead of Terror's usual mainstay Planet Mu, this album is noted as being probably the most light-hearted and poppy album released on the ordinarily deadly serious label.

Taking us through a variety of different sounds throughout the album, Terror touches on the often awkwardly done (or misdone entirely) genre of "rhythm n grime" on tunes like "Time To Let Go" and "All I Wanna" featuring Lauren Mason. D Double E surprisingly shines as well showing us his softer grime side on the title track "Undeniable."

The tracks "Acid" and "Bruzin VIP" (both previous Hyperdub singles) have the stop-and-go ferocity we've come to expect from Terror which are paired nicely alongside tunes like "Breaking Bad" that features a hard stabby 4x4 throughout and "Sonar (Selassi Mix)" a tune that pays homage to some older Terror grime instrumentals with some insane use of filters and edits.

The album really comes together on "Minimal Dub" with its bassweight and tempo changes that are perfectly set to kill any dancefloor lucky enough to be graced with its presence. Supposedly, this is a track Terror thought wouldn't be worth anything on the album but Kode 9 insisted that it stay on the LP. Thank goodness he did.

Lastly, the tune "SOS" is truly the pièce de résistance of the album that takes us on an 8 minute journey beginning with a grinding, unyielding synth and shuffling drums, floating gently into outerspace, and finishing off with a house-y, sexy, groove that can only be described as "Purple House." Grime and house in one tune as only Terror could construct for us.

"Listen hard enough and you might be able to hear him chuckling behind the beats."
